According to VOSZ, this is how companies could survive the energy crisis
The entrepreneurial community of VOSZ welcomes the recently announced government energy support package, with which energy-intensive manufacturing companies will receive effective help to maintain and continue their activities and energy modernization. At the same time, we consider that the emerging crisis affects the entire Hungarian economy and shakes it even more than the coronavirus crisis, which without quick, decisive and comprehensive state intervention can lead to massive company closures and the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Entrepreneurs understand the seriousness of the situation, think responsibly and are ready to go to the limit of their load-bearing and operational capacity, but they are helpless and defenseless without help against the impending danger that could sweep their business away. Based on the negotiations with entrepreneurs, we compiled a package of proposals to alleviate the effects of the energy crisis and to help Hungarian companies.
Sector-neutral company overhead support is needed: the energy price burden of companies should not exceed 3 times their energy costs in 2021! Based on many entrepreneurial feedbacks, this is the maximum level that can still be managed for most companies with adequate productivity and survival/development potential, whether they are hospitality or service companies. Above this level, the number of businesses that become insolvent increases rapidly.
- All energy-intensive companies receive the overhead subsidy! The program announced for energy-intensive manufacturing companies – fully supported by VOSZ – should be extended to all Hungarian businesses!
- An energy price ceiling should be introduced, which is in line with regional energy price levels, so that Hungarian companies are not put at a competitive disadvantage against Serbian, Romanian and other competing countries!
- The immediate acceleration of the licensing procedures for renewable energy investments is justified, since in such a crisis, those capacities (e.g. solar panel construction, expansion) that could already be functioning cannot be allowed to stand still for months!
- Abolishing the power take-over limit (50 kW) for solar (company) small-scale power plants would remove the biggest obstacle to the realization of solar park expansions, energy investments and energy independence of medium-sized companies (already implemented or in the process of being implemented in many cases).
- Modernization of the energy system (network infrastructure): the system designed for a few large power plants must be made suitable for receiving the energy fed back by many, many small (solar) power plants. All this means a serious state investment, but they must be treated as a priority, even by postponing other investments. The development of transformer districts, the creation of battery banks and other storage capacities are important elements of the development of the energy infrastructure and would give a boost to the implementation of solar investments.
Supporting the joint energy investments of energy communities and economic actors, by providing reimbursable and non-reimbursable resources, could contribute to the economic functioning of entire micro-regions. The operating conditions of industrial parks as energy communities can be ensured in the longer term, if it becomes possible to implement joint, subsidized investments of the companies operating there, and to use the energy produced together (even with the help of local storage capacities).
