This is how child inflation developed
The prices of products included in K&H’s children’s inflation basket have increased over the past year. A basket containing a chocolate snail, orange juice, fruit yogurt, hamburger, backpack and spectacle frames would have cost 43,588 forints in April, more than 7 percent more than a year earlier.
The children’s inflation measured by K&H is showing an increase in price. The total value of the basket containing a chocolate snail, fruit yogurt, hamburger, liter of orange juice, backpack and spectacle frames was 43,588 forints based on the official prices of the Central Statistical Office in April.
This amount is 7.1 percent higher than the value in April last year, when these products cost less than 41 thousand forints. The increase in price of more than 7 percent exceeds the April inflation, which showed an annual increase of 4.2 percent. The financial institution last presented these data in November last year, when the basket cost more than 42 thousand forints, which corresponded to an increase of 7.6 percent compared to November 2023. In comparison, the prices of the products in question increased slightly more slowly by April this year.
What do the details show?
Of the products in the basket, only the price of fruit yogurt decreased year-on-year, by 17 percent to 164 forints. At the same time, the prices of the other products increased.
The price of cocoa snails in April this year was 254 forints, compared to 244 forints in April last year, meaning that in this case the price increase was over 4 percent. More significant increases can be seen in orange juice and hamburgers. The price of the former increased by more than 30 percent to 1,160 forints, and the latter by 14 percent to 1,870 forints. This also means that the total price of food and orange juice included in the children’s inflation basket was 3,448 forints in April this year, which is 16 percent higher than last year’s level of under 3,000 forints.
Backpacks increased by nearly 4 percent to 12,270 forints, and glasses frames increased by almost 8 percent to 27,870 forints.
