Hungarian tourism continues to soar: after the unprecedented success of last year, the number of guests registered in accommodation facilities exceeded 18,226,413 on December 2 this year. This broke the 2024 full-year peak almost a month early.

Guest traffic exceeds the result of the same period of last year’s record year by 7%. The traffic successes are also clearly visible in revenues: the gross revenue of accommodation facilities exceeded the value measured in the same period of last year by 12, while the turnover of catering establishments exceeded the value measured in the same period of last year by 9%.

The numbers clearly indicate that Hungary remains an attractive and sought-after destination: the rich cultural and historical heritage, the diverse landscapes, the quality gastronomy and the diversity of the program offer encourage more and more travelers to explore our country or even return. The continuously increasing number of guests also shows that conscious developments and Visit Hungary’s data-driven, experience-focused campaigns achieve tangible results and increase the awareness of our country. The transition to a quality approach and responsible operating models ensures the long-term sustainability of tourism and further strengthens our country’s competitiveness.

The distribution of the guest base was balanced in a national context, with foreign and domestic travelers arriving in a ratio of half and half, which means that Hungary’s attractive offer is competitive in the international field, while Hungarians are also happy to choose domestic destinations.

38% of guests chose Budapest, which, with its iconic sights and vibrant cultural life, is one of the top destinations for international travel in Europe. At the same time, rural Hungary also performed well: 62% of the total tourist traffic was related to rural destinations. The special traditions, natural values and expanding services motivate more and more visitors to get to know the hidden treasures of our country. The Balaton region remains one of the most visited destinations in the countryside, offering exciting opportunities in all four seasons.

Tourism remains the most dynamically developing sector in Hungary, which, thanks to the high quality of services and authentic experiences, steadily strengthens the country’s economic performance. Advent is traditionally a prominent period: the Christmas markets, the rich winter offer and the New Year’s Eve festivities attract crowds year after year. Thus, further lively interest is expected until the end of the year, and 2025 will be another successful year in the history of domestic tourism.
