IDEAAL™: the revolutionary superprotein – a competitive protein product from Hungary
This article is available for reading in Trade magazin 2025/5.
The aim of the research and development project was to create a Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) that is high in protein, easy to digest and has a wide range of applications.

Bonafarm
“We wanted to create a product with functional and organoleptic properties that isn’t only nutritious, but also easily bioavailable from a nutritional point of view”,
says Endre Marton, R&D manager of Bonafarm Zrt.

“These proteins are particularly beneficial for old people, as it is more difficult to consume enough protein when appetite decreases, which can lead to muscle mass loss over time”,
adds Dr László Abrankó, head of department at the MATE Institute of Food Science and Technology.

CEO
Medifood
“In the course of the research we examined which essential amino acids could be used to improve the utilisation of proteins by increasing or replacing their levels”,
points out Dr Gellért Cseh, CEO of Medifood Kft.
This is how IDEAAL™ was developed, a superprotein that is up to 25% more bioavailable than traditional proteins.
High nutritional value, maximum bioavailability
The product’s nutritional value is way higher than the average, as it has been optimised to maximise protein utilisation in the body. High-protein products are popular these days, but it isn’t only the quantity of protein that matter but also its quality. During the project MATE researchers developed the optimal protein blend composition, produced laboratory prototypes and tested its efficacy in experimental foods. An industrial-scale production process was implemented at the Sole-Mizo Zrt. factory in Csorna, while experts from Medifood Hungary Innovation Kft. tested the suitability for use in clinical nutraceuticals. The result is the clinical formula MediDrink Platinum+, which is a dietary supplement that helps in preventing muscle mass loss in old age.
Protein Index, the new protein rating system
The project has also developed a new protein rating system, called Protein Index, for the classification of the protein nutritional value of foods. An EU trademark application has already been submitted for this. The system provides easily accessible and understandable information on the quality and quantity of protein. The Protein Index is an internationally standardised system that uses the DIAAS (Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score) scale recommended by the WHO and FAO. Endre Marton believes the next decade is going to be the decade of protein. As the largest dairy company in Hungary, Sole-Mizo sees great business opportunity in this segment, based on one of the most modern milk protein powder production capacities in the region. //
