The egg market moved ahead of Easter: 8–10% price increase recorded from February to March
The domestic egg market has picked up as the Easter season approaches: after stagnating at the beginning of the year, prices have started to rise, with experts talking about an 8–10% increase in producer prices from February to March. According to the Economx article, the process is driven partly by international market trends and partly by growing domestic demand.
Last year’s bird flu, which caused a significant decline in stocks across Europe, is also playing a role in the background, while the global market remains uncertain due to the combination of war and epidemics. Citing KSH data, the article highlights: Hungary nearly doubled its fresh egg exports in 2025, while imports decreased by 22%. However, the market still needs imports (around 2.5 thousand tons of exports and ~16 thousand tons of imports).
Based on the feedback from sellers, no supply problems are expected, but buyers should prepare for seasonal price adjustments during the holiday season.
