Kaufland favours Bioland meat
Kaufland is expanding its organic range to include meat products produced in accordance with Bioland guidelines. 17 items, including minced meat and schnitzel, are now Bioland-certified.
The food retailer Kaufland has converted its own-brand K-Bio meat products that now come up to Bioland standards. This includes 17 meat products like minced meat and goulash that are produced in accordance with the association’s guidelines.
According to the company, the switch to Bioland is part of Kaufland’s long-term plan to make its product range more sustainable and animal-friendly. “When we started our Bioland partnership two years ago, we made it clear how important long-term improvement of environmental and social standards in the supply chain and responsible food production are to us,” says Stefan Rauschen, Managing Director of Fresh Produce Purchasing at Kaufland.
The Bioland requirements go beyond the EU organic guidelines. Animals must have access to pasture and receive regionally grown feed in order to shorten transport routes. In addition, a comprehensive animal welfare inspection is carried out annually.
Kaufland is thus responding to the increasing demand for organic food and now offers over 150 products with Bioland certificate. In addition to meat, other products such as milk, pasta and apple sauce from the K-Bio own brand also fulfil the Bioland standards.
