HungaroControl: Hungarian air traffic control has had its busiest start to summer
Hungarian air traffic control has had its busiest start to the summer, with traffic in Hungarian airspace increasing by about 3 percent in June compared to the same period last year, which means more than 115,000 aircraft – HungaroControl told MTI on Wednesday.
It was highlighted that according to the latest report shared by HungaroControl experts, a total of more than 550,000 aircraft have affected Hungarian airspace so far in 2025, which is an increase of more than 6 percent compared to 2024 data. The domestic air navigation service provider was able to handle the significant traffic efficiently and without disruption.
According to the information, the half-yearly aggregated figures also show an increasing trend compared to 2024 data, with a total of 553,959 aircraft affecting Hungarian airspace, which is an increase of 6.19 percent.
The statement explained that, based on the data measured so far this year, overflights continue to account for the vast majority of traffic, with a total of 460,949 vehicles passing through Hungarian airspace, which accounts for more than 83 percent of total traffic. In addition, the load on Budapest Airport is also gradually increasing, especially as the July-August peak approaches. It should be noted that despite the further increase in traffic, the number of delays decreased in both the half-yearly and June projections compared to the same periods in 2024.
Ferenc Turi, CEO of HungaroControl, emphasized in the statement that traffic is booming over Hungary, with daily traffic exceeding 4,000 flights on the first weekend of July, which is an absolute peak. More resources than ever have been mobilized to effectively and safely manage the summer peak traffic. Based on the “master test” in June, they are well prepared for the busiest two months
