Hungaricums: szaloncukor and Aranyfácán tomato paste
“Hungaricums and national values are not only important for the sake of preserving heritage. These uniquely Hungarian characteristics represent us and help in our survival,” said István Nagy, the Minister of Agriculture, on Tuesday during the meeting of the Hungaricum Committee, where the Collection of Hungaricums was expanded by three items and the Hungarian Repository of Values grew by two items.
The minister stated that with these new elements, the Hungarian nation has become further enriched and strengthened. We strive at all levels of the Hungaricum movement to reinforce the fabric of our nation and our national identity. According to the decisions made today, a cart, a Hungarian-origin transportation solution which already enhanced the comfort and speed of road travel 500 years ago, was added to the Collection of Hungaricums. Szaloncukor, an indispensable part of Christmas and an important product of the domestic confectionery and sweet industry since the 19th century, also became a Hungaricum. The Aranyfácán condensed tomato from Hatvan, made exclusively from tomatoes grown on Hungarian soil, is known worldwide.
Among the new elements added to the Hungarian Repository of Values is the Pápa ham, a famous product of the Pápa meat industry, which has now gained international fame. The Repository also expands with the noon bell sound, which was ordered in memory of the victory at Nándorfehérvár and is a daily bell toll.
