PENNY creates real social impact by building on long-term partnerships
Responsible social responsibility is an integral part of PENNY Hungary’s operations: not an occasional commitment, but a consistent presence. This is also confirmed by the company’s 2025 CSR results. PENNY supported those in need in an organized manner throughout the year; through its various programs, tens of thousands of people received help in the form of tens of millions of forints worth of money and product donations.
Responsibility as part of everyday life
PENNY’s goal is not to provide occasional assistance, but to contribute to the everyday lives of communities in a predictable way. The company continuously cooperates with its civil and charitable partners, ensuring through long-term relationships that help really gets to where it is needed most. The focus of the grants continued to be on helping children and families, supporting a healthy lifestyle and sports, and reducing food waste.
Daily food rescue nationwide
For PENNY, food rescue is part of everyday life. In 2025, it also closely cooperated with its key professional partner, the Hungarian Food Bank Association, as well as the Malta Charity Service and the Hungarian Ecumenical Relief Organization, so that still edible food could reach those who need it most.
In addition, the company once again joined the Food Bank’s Donation Convoy in 2025, where PENNY’s red-and-yellow truck transported more than 11 tons of donations to help those in need.
Reducing food waste is now not only a social expectation, but also a priority goal at both the domestic and international levels. In practice, this affects product categories such as vegetables and fruits, dairy products and cold cuts, fresh meat, bakery products and dry goods. The food products to be handed over are always in intact packaging, close to their best-before date, but not expired, and show only aesthetic differences that do not affect quality.
PENNY focuses on preventing food waste through its cooperation with the Munch food rescue platform, while within the framework of the Girbe-gurba program, it also takes over high-quality but aesthetically different vegetables and fruits from suppliers. In this way, the company simultaneously strengthens its support for Hungarian farmers and helps customers make conscious, budget-friendly decisions.
The company supported, among other things:
- the work of SOS Children’s Villages, where around 400 children received help through various programs,
- the events and programs of the International Children’s Rescue Service, which reached several thousand children in total,
- the Advent fundraising campaign of the Hungarian Red Cross, during which customers donated nearly 47 thousand kilograms of non-perishable food, and the help reached around 11 thousand people before the holidays,
- as well as the colleagues of the National Rescue Service everyday work by purchasing modern stretchers.
PENNY considers social responsibility a common cause, which is why it actively involved its customers and employees in support initiatives in 2025. Fundraisers, community events and volunteer programs – including the Children’s Day held in the City Park or the anniversary, 10th PENNY Santa Run – simultaneously strengthened the power of cooperation, the importance of movement and the significance of community assistance.
