One of the most basic foods will cost a lot for a long time
Eggs are expensive and will remain so for a long time – production costs have tripled or quadrupled. Today, shops can charge up to HUF 1,000 for a box of eggs.

The price of eggs may continue to rise
“The rise in the price of raw materials for the packaging industry and especially energy doubled the price of the materials needed for egg packaging this year alone”
says Csaba Kollár, owner-manager of Mizsetáp Kft. in Lajosmiz, which accounts for five percent of domestic egg production.
The specialist has been involved in egg production for about three decades, and he has never seen production costs, laying hens, and the necessary feed prices rise twice or even three to four times before.
Speaking to baon.hu, Csaba Kollár emphasized that the price of purchased materials, services, and final products had fluctuated unpredictably before. There have been better and less good years in the past, but the current one is extraordinary, he said, indicating that all these may be a cause for concern in terms of the profitability of the sector and make further price increases inevitable.
