Price competitiveness will become a decisive factor in maintaining the positive trend of Croatian tourism, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in Zagreb on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister called for caution in setting prices in tourism at a meeting of the Tourism Development Council, indicating that Croatia is losing its competitive advantage because prices are rising faster than in competing Mediterranean countries.
Because of this, Croatia has found itself in a situation where its affordability, which was an advantage for a long time, is now slowly disappearing, he added.
According to market analyses, the prices of tourism services in Croatia have grown twice as fast as in most Mediterranean countries and are currently higher than in Greece and Spain, Plenkovic said, noting that the aforementioned countries are also quite attractive and have something to offer tourists.
He indicated that consumption by foreign tourists decreased by ten percent last year compared to the same period a year earlier. “They probably spend less because they find the prices high,” he said.
He also pointed out the importance of ensuring that the opportunity to vacation remains available to Croatian citizens.
