Where do the fruits come from?
To sell apple from vending machines – this is a decades-old idea overseas, which now seems to be realised as part of the fight against childhood obesity and the trend of buying fresh products from local farmers. In Mason High School in Cincinnati, baby carrots are sold form vending machines in bags that look like crisp bags, with the slogan ‘Eat ‘em like junk food’ – an 85-gram bag costs 50 cents and the first test portions were sold in an hour. Schools in Clive, Iowa sell banana from vending machines, in a bag or in a box. It seems that vending machines can also add something positive to the diet of pupils.
