United Illusions Virtual Production Studio has entered into a strategic partnership with Orbital Studios in Los Angeles. In the future, the two studios will work together to build on their experiences to further develop the technical and production processes that can make virtual film production even more efficient and provide a basis for the implementation of joint projects. The partnership is based on knowledge sharing and joint innovation, creating new opportunities for both European and American productions. The cooperation will also further strengthen Hungary’s position in the global film industry, as high technological standards are combined with competitive production conditions.

United Illusions – the largest virtual film studio in Central Europe – opened in Fót this year and upon its opening received the ARRI film technology company accreditation, which is held by fewer than ten studios worldwide. The technology used here involves projecting virtual sets around actors in real time on LED walls, enabling faster, more cost-effective and more sustainable production. The technology has now become an integral part of modern filmmaking and is used in numerous productions. Current examples include James Gunn’s new Superman, the Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, and HBO’s own series House of Dragons.

However, the potential of virtual filmmaking is far from being fully exploited, which is why negotiations began more than a year ago between United Illusions and one of Hollywood’s largest virtual film studios, Orbital Studios. Zoltán Simon, director of the studio in Fót, said about the birth of the collaboration:

“It is a special honor for us that Orbital Studios has chosen us as its first international partner, while they have received numerous requests for similar collaborations worldwide. Even when designing the studio, our goal was to work with a partner who represents the forefront of virtual production. Orbital Studios not only fulfills this, but our vision is the same: building on our experience, we will further develop the processes of virtual filmmaking in order to exploit the creative and production advantages of the technology even more effectively. and joint developments and projects ensure that we remain at the forefront of VP innovation.”

The international collaboration was announced on November 11 in Los Angeles, at the headquarters of Creative Artists Agency, at the American Film Market related to a professional event. The gala was attended by many renowned directors, cinematographers and producers.

Brian Nitzkin, Vice President of Business Development at Orbital Studios said:

“Ever since Zoltán first visited us in Los Angeles a few years ago, we have been in constant dialogue about how we could support each other’s work. Virtual production is a new technology that has an immediate and positive impact on the entertainment industry – think of creative flexibility, cost-effectiveness or sustainability. Both Orbital Studios and United Illusions are at the forefront of integrating these into production processes in the most effective way possible.”

United Illusions, part of the Visual Europe Group, has thus further strengthened its international presence and taken an important step towards making Hungary an even more attractive destination for major productions. In addition to technological development, the partnership also serves to share professional knowledge, as Szabolcs Botond, CEO of Visual Europe Group said:

“Since the founding of the group, we have consistently served innovation to ensure that our clients receive the highest possible quality of service. This partnership is another milestone in this regard. With the experienced, dedicated team of Orbital Studios, we will not only expand our technological capabilities, but also support aspiring filmmakers with joint training.”
