Dutch Milk Producers Block a Cheese Plant
The move follows further’s blockade of a Friesland Foods plant.
Hundreds of Dutch milk producers blocked the entry to a DOC Kaas
cheese manufacturing facility in the northern town of Hoogeveen in
an attempt to protest low milk prices. The protestors threatened to
suspend production as their income does not cover their costs.
In a statement, DOC Kass said that it
is doing whatever possible to counter rising production costs and
decreasing milk prices, however the company remains dependent of
developments in the global dairy market. DOC Kass, however, remains
optimistic that the increase in worldwide demand for dairy products
will help sort out the situation over time.
