Where were bakers mistaken?
The aim of the Association of Hungarian Bakers and baking companies was to cooperate and to harmonise the activities of the different actors in the baking industry, in order to be able to achieve a general price increase when selling to retail chains. This involved exchanging confidential information and an enterprise owned by the Association (this would have put their new, joint product on the market). GVH’s judgement stated that the bakers tried to form an illegal cartel.
