How do we use expired meat products? Nébih’s guide will help you navigate
Nébih’s Remaining Without Remains program has been renewed Expired… Can I eat it? guide helps ensure that food can be used safely even after the expiration date. In previous articles, we presented the usability of dairy products and eggs in detail, but this time we focus on meat products.
How long can meat products be consumed after the quality preservation period has expired?
According to Nébih’s information, many meat products can be consumed even after the quality preservation period has expired, as long as their sensory properties (smell, taste, texture) are adequate. The following is a list of the most important meat products and their usability:
Sausage: It can be consumed for 2 months after the expiry of the quality preservation period, but only in the case of products made with drying aging. If the smell, taste or texture of the sausage deteriorates, do not eat it.
Salami: It can also be used for 2 months after the expiry date if it is dry-aged. Sensory control is also essential here.
Frozen fish and poultry: These products can be kept in the freezer for 3 months after the expiry date.
Ham: It can be used for 3 months if it is dry-aged and in good condition.
Bacon: It can be stored for 3 months, but since it tends to go rancid, it can only be used if it has the right taste and smell.
Frozen mammalian products: can be used for 6 months if stored correctly.
Canned foods: Canned fish and meat products, as well as canned fruit and vegetables, and ready meals can be consumed for 12 months after the expiration date, as long as the packaging is undamaged.
