How the bun got into the Chinese army – Video of the day
The characters of today’s film in Fuqing, China, start making guang bing, a bagel-like Chinese pastry whose recipe dates back 500 years, every morning at 4:30. According to legend, it was invented by a Chinese general so that his troops could carry it with them on a string and eat it on the go. But it was also necessary for that. because this could be baked in an oven dug into the ground, so that the smoke of the campfires could not reveal the location of the soldiers. The recipe for guang bing is still the same today as it was 500 years ago, but the tradition is said to be dying out.
