Exports and imports levels are higher by 7 percent
According to first estimates of Central Statistic Office in May 2008,, exports amounted to HUF 1,513 billion, while the value of imports reached HUF 1,504 billion.
The Euro value of exports rose by 7,
while that of imports increased by 6 percent over the equivalent
month of the preceding year. In May, the trade balance showed surplus
of about HUF 10 billion (EUR 47 million), the balance improved by HUF
3,4 billion (EUR 27 million) compared to the same month of 2007. The
share of the European Union Member States was 78 percent in exports
and 67 percent in imports.
Over the course of January–May 2008,
the value of exports was HUF 7,908 billion, while that of imports
totalled up to HUF 7,810 billion, according to preliminary results.
The value of exports is estimated to have expanded by 16 percent,
while that of imports by 14 percent as compared to the same period of
2007. In Euro terms, exports grew by 14, while imports by 11 percent.
The trade balance showed a surplus of HUF 98 billion (EUR 388
million), which means an improvement of HUF 170 billion (EUR 675
million) as compared to the deficit of HUF 72 billion (EUR 287
million) in the same period of the previous year.
