NBAC: 7.4 percent of the sales revenue is lost due to counterfeiting in the EU
7.4 percent of the sales revenue (48 billion euros) is lost every year because of counterfeiting and different forms of piracy in the European Union – the National Board Against Counterfeiting (NBAC) announced on Wednesday, on the basis of the annual report of the European Union's Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
According to the communiqué, due to the counterfeiting of clothing, toys, sporting goods, jewelry, handbags a further 35 billion euros are lost. The missing government revenue is estimated to 14.3 billion euros.
The EUIPO reports that in Hungary, 230 billion HUF is lost annually as a direct result of counterfeiting in the sectors mentioned above. This is 12 percent of the sales. With this result, Hungary is on the seventh place in the European Union – the NBAC pointed out.
