International Home Brewers Competition on Saturday in Főzdepark
Free programs, brewery tours and the best homebrews from nine countries await those interested in the International Homebrew Competition in Budapest’s Főzdepark on Saturday from noon.
According to a statement sent to MTI by the First Hungarian Homebrew Association, the event’s organizer, on Thursday, their thirteenth international competition will not only feature expert judging of 300 competition beers, but also professional presentations and guided brewery tours will await visitors in the Főzdepark in District 10.
This year, entries for the increasingly popular competition across Europe have arrived from nine countries. In addition to Hungarian homebrewers, entrants from England, the Czech Republic, Finland, Croatia, Austria, Romania, Switzerland and Slovakia are also competing.
The keen interest is shown by the fact that the 300 places opened for entry were filled in 50 hours in March, the statement highlights.
As they write, beers brewed in a wide variety of styles will be evaluated by about 100 judges over three days according to the principles of the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP), a globally recognized program developed in the United States.
Like the contestants, the beer judges are also international, coming from six other European countries in addition to Hungary, as well as Israel, Brazil and the United States. It is a real speciality that a highest-level (Master) BJCP judge, the Italian Francesco Antonelli, will also pay his respects at the competition – the announcement highlights.
On Saturday’s open, free-to-attend competition day, the gold, silver and bronze medalists will be announced in eight categories, and the best beer of the competition, the Best of Show, will also be selected. The results will be announced at six in the evening.
From noon, free programs related to brewing and beer culture await visitors to Főzdepark.
