ASP confirmed in domestic pigs in Croatia
African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in domestic pigs in the settlements of Jagodnjak and Bolman in Croatia, located near the Hungarian border. The outbreaks have significantly increased the risk of the virus being introduced into Hungary, which is why the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) strongly recommends that pig farmers in the affected medium-risk counties apply and adhere to priority disease control measures.

On July 10, the Croatian authorities confirmed the appearance of ASP in domestic pigs in the settlements of Jagodnjak (Kácsfalu) and Bolman (Bolmány) on July 11. Both villages are located in Osijek-Baranya County, near the Hungarian-Croatian border, thus significantly increasing the risk of the virus being introduced into Hungary via the southern border region.
Nébih calls on pig farmers to fully comply with biosecurity measures
In view of the increasing epidemic risk, the authority strongly recommends that the priority disease control measures previously only mandatory in infected areas be applied in medium-risk counties as well. Help with this can be found in the Good Pig Farming Practices downloadable from the Nébih website. It is important that livestock farmers only purchase pigs with appropriate certificates and from places that comply with the law.
