The price of slaughter pigs has decreased in Hungary and in the EU
In the European Union, the slaughterhouse entry price of pigs belonging to the “E” commercial class was 1.78 euros/kilogram of cold carcass weight in October 2025, a decrease of 10.6 percent in one year. The pork prices of companies and slaughterhouses that are decisive for the EU pig market were on average 14.2 percent lower in the 48th week of 2025 compared to the average price of the same week of the previous year.

According to the data of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, Hungary’s live pig exports increased by 10.4 percent to 31.5 thousand tons in January-October 2025 compared to the quantity sold on the foreign market in the same period of 2024. The quantity of pork sold on the international market decreased by 7 percent (128.8 thousand tons) and its value by 12.9 percent in January-October 2025 compared to January-October 2024. The volume of pork imports decreased by 10.8 percent (106.2 thousand tons) and the value by 11.6 percent during the same period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 624 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in November 2025, an 18.4 percent decrease compared to the average price a year earlier.
