Hungary is free from highly pathogenic avian influenza again
Hungary is once again considered free from avian influenza according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) regulations. The favourable status covering the entire country allows for unhindered trade in live poultry and poultry products with certain third countries.

On the official website of the OIE, Hungary has confirmed its freedom from highly pathogenic avian influenza, which is valid retroactively from 5 July 2025. Dr. Szabolcs Pásztor, the national chief veterinarian, informs the competent authorities of the partner countries in an official letter about the lifting of import restrictions.
In order to prevent the re-emergence of avian influenza, it is essential that animal keepers fully comply with the basic disease control requirements
Accordingly, it remains mandatory to feed and water animals in a covered place, preferably closed from the sides, throughout the country. Feed and bedding should be stored indoors, or in the case of the latter – if this is not possible – the material should be covered with foil to prevent access by wild birds.
