Monthly net income from 312 thousand to 800 thousand forints in the household – what is this enough for?
In the first quarter, the average monthly net income of middle-aged households was 592 thousand forints, which is a quarterly and annual increase of 10 and 19 percent, respectively, and a record in the history of the K&H Sure Future survey. 8 percent of 30-59 year-olds have a monthly net income of 800 thousand forints, which is enough for a carefree life and even for regular savings. The other extreme is the 2 percent who have to do without because the income of 312 thousand forints is not enough.
The monthly net income of middle-aged households increased significantly at the beginning of this year, according to the K&H Sure Future survey, which examines the financial situation of 30-59 year-olds on a quarterly basis.
Upswing
According to the latest results, the average net household income in the first quarter was 592 thousand forints. This corresponds to a slightly more than 10 percent increase compared to the 538 thousand forints typical for the last quarter of last year, and a 19 percent increase year-on-year. The current result also represents a record level in the history of the survey since 2015 – by comparison, five years earlier, in the first quarter of 2020, the average was 353 thousand forints, and at the beginning of 2016, it was 269 thousand forints. The median net income at the beginning of this year was 504 thousand forints, meaning that half of the households of 30-59 year-olds have a higher income and the other half have a lower income.
Men generally report a higher net household income than women, although in this quarter the difference was within the margin of error: men reported an average of 606 thousand forints and women 579 thousand forints. In the case of women, the net income of those with children may continue to increase in the coming period, thanks to the gradual introduction of personal income tax relief for those affected.
