The GVH promises decisive action in food retail
The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) is supporting initiatives aimed at reducing food prices with all available means, the GVH told MTI on Tuesday.
Several competition supervision procedures are currently underway against food retail businesses on suspicion of prohibited price fixing or misleading advertising, and complaint procedures involving retail chains have also been initiated based on consumer signals.
They added that the online price monitor, which currently displays the prices of more than 2,000 foods belonging to 78 product categories in about 1,200 stores of 6 retail chains, will soon be expanded with about 20 new product categories.
The GVH’s sectoral investigations previously proved that certain actors in the food trade increased the prices of basic foods to a greater extent than justified
– they justified their measures.
