The regulation on e-cash registers has entered into force
The regulation on e-cash registers came into force on Tuesday, which could put an end to the era of paperless cash registers. Now the main role belongs to developers, and from July this year, e-cash registers approved by the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) can already be put into operation. Small businesses should consider switching from the receipt pad, because in addition to paperless receipts, the e-cash register brings less administration, easier use and cost reduction for both sellers and buyers – the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) drew attention in its latest announcement.
The coming months will be about the type testing and licensing of new types of cash registers. The rules have also been simplified here, because the tests are carried out by experts from the National Tax and Customs Administration. In addition to operating in accordance with the law, the process of issuing e-receipts and sending them to the so-called receipt repository is strictly controlled, and tax regulations cannot be circumvented in any way.
As the announcement shows, businesses that are required to use cash registers (such as retail stores, restaurants, accommodation, taxi drivers, plastic surgeons, pharmacies, masseurs, gyms) use more than 200 thousand online cash registers in total. In order to ensure a smooth transition from online cash registers to e-cash registers, online cash registers can still be used until July 1, 2028.
Although it is not mandatory, it is worth switching to e-cash registers from the summer. In contrast to the mandatory annual servicing required for online cash registers, servicing of e-cash registers is only mandatory if the operator requests it from the distributor.
Through the change, businesses can save an average of 25 thousand forints per year. Another advantage of e-cash registers is that businesses using them are exempt from the obligation to retain receipts. This is done by the so-called receipt repository, which stores the received data for ten years, they explained.
