Huge fine for Dia in Greece
According to local press reports the Competition Committee has imposed a penalty of EUR5.1 million on Carrefour-owned Dia.
The discounter was forcing the franchisees to sell their products at certain retail price levels.
Last year the Dia discount stores in
Greece which have been converted into the Dia Market concept recorded
a sales increase of up to 70%. Carrefour plans to convert all of its
260 small- and medium-sized Dia outlets into Dia Market. The aim of
the retailer is to convert 30 Dia stores into the Dia Market concept
annually. Dia Market places extra emphasis on fresh products (50% of
the assortment) and groceries.
