Did you buy a used car from a webshop? These are the latest trends in the used car market
The year 2023 brought consolidation in the used car market, but the winds of recession and inflation can be felt in the segment. Customers are more aware, but mistrust is still strong and often justified. What can the future bring and how will Hungarians buy used cars in 2024? Could used lease cars be the solution? After food and technical goods, can we buy our next car from an online store? ALD Automotive | The director of LeasePlan’s used car business summarized the current pioneering trends.
The COVID-19 period understandably initially pushed back used car sales, but the value of own-use cars increased due to health safety, so the number of people interested in buying a car increased. As a result of the shortage of spare parts starting in 2021 and peaking in 2022 and the difficulties in transportation, the used car market revived, as many people who had to wait years for new cars instead turned to the secondary market. All of this temporarily increased used car prices. However, the year 2023 was already about consolidation in both the new car and used car markets. Delivery times have shortened, and it has become typical nowadays that you can once again choose a new vehicle from stock at a discount. This has brought the prices of new cars and used cars closer to each other, which is a challenge in the secondary market, but the still cheaper used cars still offer a good alternative for interested parties with less purchasing power.
