Clean beauty market to triple as retailers ditch synthetic legacies

The global clean beauty retail market size was valued at $8.3b in 2024 and is projected to reach $23.7b by 2033, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.2%, according to a press release cited by Retail Asia.

The research firm attributed the growth to rising consumer demand for ingredient transparency, non-toxic formulations and sustainable personal care products, as clean beauty moves from a niche segment into mainstream retail.

Asia plays a central role in this shift, with clean beauty retail shaped by heritage ingredients, holistic wellness and trust-led consumption, and market approaches differing across Japan, Korea, India and Southeast Asia.

Retail models in the region have shifted towards ingredient-first merchandising, education-led formats and QR-enabled transparency tools, supported by experience-driven physical stores and digitally integrated platforms.

The report noted that Asian consumers are increasingly research-driven, scrutinising ingredient lists, avoiding greenwashed claims and prioritising brand philosophy alongside product efficacy.

Growth in Asia is expected to focus on personalised clean beauty retail, ingredient traceability, regional scaling of Asian brands and the integration of beauty, wellness and preventive skincare.
