Domestic corn crop can be three million tons less this year

This year’s corn crop can be up to three million tons less, due to the drought. Animal farmers can be also affected badly by the dramatic price increase of the most important feed, therefore, agricultural experts urge government intervention – writes Népszava on Friday.

Instead of the average 7-8 million tons of corn, this year the farmers can only harvest 4-5 million tons. The primary reason for the huge decline in yields is the extreme drought, it is estimated that the drought of the recent months burnt the crop on about 1.2 million hectares, which is about 30 percent of domestic sowing area.
