A pack of cigarettes can be three thousand forints
According to the proposal of the European Commission, the minimum excise tax per box would be raised from 1.80 euros to 3.60 euros per box, in Hungary the excise tax on tobacco products will be up to HUF 1,500.

Excise duty may increase
A pack of cigarettes in Hungary could cost nearly HUF three thousand if the European Commission’s proposal is accepted. According to the draft document, the EU plans to reform the taxation of the tobacco industry.
All of this would double the excise taxes in the member states with low tax rates for tobacco products, reports tobaccomagazin.hu based on the Financial Times.
