Three months – more than 1.2 million guests – HUF 45 billion turnover
In January-March 2008, international and domestic guests overall spent 1 percent more nights in public accommodations, which had, at current prices, 3 percent more revenues.
In January-March 2008, commercial
accommodations reported 559 thousand foreign guests and 1473 thousand related tourism nights.
13 percent more visitors and 7 percent more guest nights were
registered compared to same period 2007.
Over the survey period public
accommodations registered 691 thousand domestic guests and 1532 thousand domestic guest nights. 2
percent more visitors spent 4 percent less nights compared to
January- March 2007. The one, four and five star hotel categories had
more domestic guest nights. One star facilities had 28, four star
facilities had 22 percent more guest nights; overall guest night
growth was 1 percent in hotels. Boarding houses, which are beloved by
domestic guests and have a one-fifth share among guest nights,
reported 3 percent less guest nights.
In the survey period, hotels had 39.3
percent – half percent less than one year before – average occupancy rate. 4 percent less guests
were registered at Lake Balaton, while Budapest reported 8 percent
more guest nights compared to the last year same period level. In the
first quarter of 2008 the five most visited counties were in the
Western Transdanubia and Central Hungary regions while the fewest
visitors were registered in Nógrád and Tolna counties.
In the first quarter of 2008, public
accommodations had gross revenues of 45 billion HUF, which reflect a 3.2 percent increase at
current prices. Accommodation revenues were up 8.7 percent and
reached 24 billion HUF in the observed period.
On 31 March 2008, 1930 public
accommodations were registered including 731 hotels, 886 boarding houses and 313 other
accommodations (tourist and youth hostels, holiday houses, camping
sites).
