The strawberry season started with three Hungarian varieties on Kifli.hu
Strawberries are one of the most popular seasonal fruits every year – last year, more than 22 tons of them were sold on Kifli.hu. This season, customers can choose from four brands: three domestic free-range varieties – Veresi, Szabadszállási and Aranyegyházi – as well as the imported Eat Me brand.
The demand for strawberries is continuous: last year, it was among the ten most popular products in the Kifli.hu fruit and vegetable category and more than 22 tons of it were sold. The most popular packaging is the 200–250 gram box. In addition to strawberries, several other strawberry products – such as yogurt, cakes, jam, syrup and soft drinks – are also available in the season.
This year, customers of Kifli.hu can choose from four strawberry brands: three domestic free-range varieties – Veresi, Szabadszállási and Aranyegyházi – as well as an imported product, the Eat Me brand. The main advantage of domestic, freshly picked strawberries is that they reach households within 12 hours of picking, with a short delivery time. While imported varieties intended for export are often bred to have firmer flesh for transportability, Hungarian producers prefer tastier but more sensitive varieties. In addition, seasonally available free-range strawberries also have a lower environmental impact.
One of the specialties of the offer is the Aranyegyházi strawberry, produced by László Pintér. The package contains only the large-fruited, freshly picked Aprica variety. The Veresi Szamóca strawberry, on the other hand, grows in greenhouse conditions, in a naturally heated grow house, so it is available even in winter.
Freshly purchased strawberries are a perishable fruit, so proper storage is key. They can be kept in the refrigerator for a maximum of 2–3 days, but it is worth washing them only immediately before consumption, as moisture accelerates spoilage. It is best to store in a single layer in a paper towel-lined, non-airtight container. If you have a larger amount in your basket, the excess can be frozen and used in smoothies or cakes.
