Asda to plan a fivefold increase at on-line business
Britain's second-biggest supermarket chain, is planning its biggest internet expansion to date in an attempt to generate £1 billion of online sales by 2011.
Tesco, which launched a similar
non-food service two years ago, was ahead of its supermarket rivals
in online sales. Now Asda plans to go head-to-head with its Asda
Direct website and puts more than 750,000 non-food products on the
web from the summer. It will also introduce a 1,000-page catalogue
and kiosk service.
