Intersnack Hungary will ship its new snack from Győr to thirty countries
The manufacturer of Chio products has started making its new potato-based snack at its Győr plant. The so-called oven chips production line cost 8 billion forints, and this oven will serve almost the whole of Europe with the new chips. The equipment was launched jointly by Zsolt Papp, President of the National Chamber of Agriculture, and Dénes Lukács, CEO. The company will also continue to expand its solar panel park this year and is planning a cooperation program with local schools and the university.
The CEO of Intersnack Hungary emphasized at the handover that the Győr factory will supply almost the entire group of companies with the new snack. An important feature of oven chips is that they are not fried in oil, but in an oven, so their fat content is 70 percent lower than traditional chips. The new production line will produce 10 tons of them per day. – “This new type of baking method also indicates our commitment to sustainability. Not only the lower fat content, but also the reduction of rapeseed oil consumption was an important aspect in the procurement. This year we will produce 2,300 tons of oven chips, of which approx. 2 million bags will be placed on the Hungarian market.”
Dénes Lukács also spoke about other sustainability investments planned by the company, in addition to the commissioning of an 8 billion forint oven that requires much less energy than older machines. The company installed its solar park on the factory premises in 2022, and last year it already obtained 17 percent of the electricity used in production from solar energy. This year, the capacity of the solar park will be expanded by 60 percent, so the share of its own electricity produced will now be 25 percent.
Dénes Lukács also considered it important that the food industry is not by chance a strategic sector, and that this sector is not affected by rapidly changing global trends, such as car manufacturing.
