One-third fewer fruits and vegetables have grown this year
Because of the extreme weather conditions, about 30-35 percent less vegetables and fruits have grown this year in Hungary, than usual – told Mártonffy Béla, Executive Director of FruitVeB to MTI.
The specialist said, that this year roughly 2.2 to 2.3 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables, will be harvested, which corresponds to the 2007 level.
The decrease of yield is expected to cause 15-20 percent price loss to the farmers. Experts estimate that with the price increases, only about 10-15 percent of the yield loss can be compensated. So this year, the primary revenue will be around 150-160 billion HUF, while the Value of goods will be around 400 billion HUF – reports privatbankar.hu.
