According to Europêch’s forecast, in the four leading peach and nectarine producing member states of the European Union (Spain, Italy, Greece and France), peach and nectarine production (excluding industrial) is expected to decrease by 6 percent to 2.57 million tons in 2025 compared to a year earlier: nectarines 1.29 million tons (–6 percent), peaches 997.4 thousand tons (–5 percent) and flat peaches 291.1 thousand tons (–7 percent). Industrial peach production could be 12 percent lower (625.7 thousand tons).

According to Eurostat data, peach and nectarine production increased to 20.3 thousand tons (+43 percent) in 2024. According to the publication of the Institute of Agricultural Economics, the peach picking was 27 percent on July 16, 2025, with the average yield at that time being around 3.1 tons/hectare, which is less than a third of last year’s yield per hectare. According to experts, the decline is a consequence of the frost damage in April.

According to data from the Central Statistical Office, Hungary’s peach and nectarine foreign trade balance was negative in 2024: imports were 15.5 thousand tons, exports were 209.5 tons

In the first six months of this year, 37 percent fewer nectarines and peaches (3.05 thousand tons) arrived in the country compared to the same period of the previous year, primarily from Spain. According to data from AKI PÁIR, peaches appeared on the Budapest Wholesale Market in the 26th week at a price of 1,733 forints/kilogram. The producer price of peaches increased significantly (1,365 forints/kilogram) in the 26th–32nd week of 2025 compared to the previous year due to the poor harvest. The wholesale price of imported peaches (1,927 forints/kilogram) increased by 67 percent in the 19th–26th week of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year.
