There is huge potential at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), which is currently among the 100 best agricultural universities in the world – said the head of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) on Thursday in Gödöllő.

At the press conference after the student forum called Ask the Minister!, Balázs Hankó spoke about how MATE is a determining factor in Hungarian agriculture, and the university’s five campuses are constantly developing. He added that the university’s funding has almost doubled in recent times. The minister highlighted that the institution has understood the essence of innovation, as it achieved 1.2 billion forints in innovation revenue last year. “This means that the renewed Hungarian university world is working,” which means that research that is useful for the economy and society is being conducted – the minister added.

The Minister said that the development and progress of MATE is in the interest of the entire Carpathian Basin agriculture

He added that the forum discussed differences of opinion and the importance of mutual respect, but the issue of scholarships was also discussed. According to Balázs Hankó, it is clear that scholarships need to be strengthened and the number of dormitory places must be increased. The government has a dormitory development strategy, which will also result in the expansion of dormitory places in Gödöllő – added Balázs Hankó. The Minister said that they talked a lot about the value of the diploma, and in his opinion, the government has made Hungarian higher education more competitive. He added that in the case of admission scores, the new admission system was discussed, where we actually discussed the essence of institutional autonomy – said the Minister. “The Hungarian model strengthens this autonomy and this competitiveness” – added Balázs Hankó.
