A shop in Budapest collapsed with fake global brands: HUF 45 million in damage was caused
A shop in Budapest lured its customers with fake world brands, causing more than HUF 45 million in damages to the rights holders, according to the announcement of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). The cashiers of the NAV Deployment Directorate conducted a thorough investigation in the store, where they found bags and baseball caps with Gucci and Valentino logos. The owner of the store defended himself by saying that the goods came from a company in the Far East, so the necessary papers were also there. However, the shoddy quality of the products clearly indicated fakes, which was later confirmed by the authorized representatives of the trademarks.
NAV confiscated more than three hundred bags and caps on the spot and initiated proceedings for infringement of industrial property rights. The owner of the store caused serious economic damage to the rights holders, and the distribution of counterfeit goods also posed a serious risk to the customers.
Why are fake products dangerous?
In its announcement, the NAV highlighted that counterfeit products not only cause damage to economic operators, but can also endanger the health of customers. In the production of fake clothing and footwear, chemical substances are often used, which can have a harmful effect on human health when they come into contact with the human skin. Therefore, it is particularly important to filter fake products from the market and prevent their distribution.
Illegally copied goods not only damage the reputation of brands, but also distort competition and cause serious damage to the economy in the long term.
