The 42nd Lidl Balaton swim will start soon
In 40 days, on July 20, the country’s most popular open water leisure sports event, the 42nd Lidl Balaton swim, will start from Révfülöp and finish at Balatonboglár. The organizers are expecting more than ten thousand participants to the Balaton shore this year, who can “get away” with the classic 5.2 km distance, the 2.6 km Half Distance, or complete the Lidl Balaton Crossing with a SUP.
Can the staff limit of 12,000 be met?
The popularity of the Balaton swim is typical of the fact that already 40 days before the event, the number of pre-registrations received from 800 settlements in the country exceeded 6,000. The unique open-water swimming event is an attractive summer program not only for Hungarians, but also for foreigners: in addition to our compatriots, more than 300 foreign swimmers from 39 countries will compete in Lake Balaton on July 20.
41% of the entrants are women, which is remarkable because the proportion of women in the first Balaton swims was only 4%, i.e. the participation of the fairer gender has now increased tenfold.
