The allocation of the data deletion code will soon be automated
From August 21, a change that will significantly affect the administrative processes of companies that sell digital data carriers is coming. By controlling the so-called data erasing code, devices capable of carrying data – PCs, smartphones, flash drives, tablets, etc. – at the time of purchase, the seller will have to record the so-called data erasure code on the invoice, which enables the safe and permanent deletion of the customer’s data in the future.
However, the process is far from that simple, on the seller’s side, in connection with invoicing, it entails an additional administrative task of recording the need for a data erasure code for each product, which salespeople can still prepare for, and it is good for buyers to know what they will have to pay attention to. Nearly 7,000 businesses invoicing with Billingo’s system will be affected by the entry into force of the regulation.
Today in Hungary, the secure deletion of data on durable data carriers purchased by consumers (this includes, for example, PCs or smartphones, tablets, pen drives) is a legal right, for which the state, i.e. NAV, also provides assistance. Based on the relevant government decree, traders are obliged to request a free data deletion code from NAV and deliver it to the customer. 726/2020, created on the last day of 2020, which regulates the logistics of the allocation of the code and the conditions of its use. (XII.31.) Government decree will enter into force on August 21, 2024, and will primarily present new, mainly administrative, challenges to companies operating online invoicing programs and online marketplaces.
