Food inflation accelerated in Germany in September
German annual inflation accelerated to its highest level this year in September, according to final data released by the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, on Tuesday.
In September, consumer prices in Germany exceeded those a year earlier by 2.4 percent, the largest increase since December last year. A month earlier, in August, it stood at 2.2 percent.
Consumer prices rose by 0.2 percent in one month, following a 0.1 percent increase in August.
According to a statement from Destatis, energy prices in Germany decreased by 0.7 percent year-on-year in September, after falling by 2.4 percent a month earlier, while food prices increased at a slower pace, by 2.1 percent on an annual basis, following a 2.5 percent increase in August. At the same time, the price of services increased at an accelerating pace, by 3.4 percent, after 3.1 percent in the previous month.
The annual core inflation rate, which excludes the often volatile energy and food prices, stood at 2.8 percent in September, after 2.7 percent in the previous month.
The annual HICP index of consumer prices, calculated for EU comparison purposes, accelerated to 2.4 percent, from 2.1 percent in August. In month-on-month comparison, a 0.2 percent increase was recorded, after a 0.1 percent increase in August.
