The decline in German retail sales accelerated in December on a monthly basis
In Germany, the decline in retail sales accelerated in December in a monthly comparison.
The German statistical office, Destatis, announced on Wednesday that retail sales fell by 1.6 percent in December compared to November, when a smaller, 0.8 percent monthly decline was registered. The average of experts’ expectations was 0.7 percent monthly growth for December.
In Germany, it was the second month in a row that retail sales fell month-on-month.
In December, in a month-on-month comparison, the sale of food, among other things, decreased by 2.8 percent, and that of non-food products by 1.6 percent.
