The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) has initiated the recall of Sprint quick-frozen halved plums because the product contains pesticide residues, and therefore its consumption may pose a health risk.

According to the NKFH’s announcement on Wednesday, a laboratory test conducted as part of an official inspection revealed the presence of an unauthorized active ingredient (dodin) exceeding the limit value.

The authority notified Tesco-Global Áruházak Zrt. of the violation, ordered it to withdraw the disputed item from circulation and recall it from consumers, and prohibited its further marketing. The authority is monitoring the measures taken by the company and the further fate of the recalled products, it was announced.

The recall concerns 450-gram Sprint quick-frozen halved plums with a best-before date of September 11, 2026. The NKFH asks that those who have purchased it not consume it, the product can be returned to Tesco stores.

Dodine is a fungicide, which is mainly used to treat fruit against fungal diseases, such as scab and powdery mildew. It is not a particularly highly toxic substance, but it can pose a health risk to those sensitive to it, especially children, pregnant women, people with liver and kidney diseases, and people with weakened immune systems – the NKFH explained.
