Aldi recalls frozen herbs due to possible presence of coli bacteria

Aldi Hungary has initiated a recall of quick-frozen herbs, as the presence of coli bacteria cannot be ruled out in the product – the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) drew attention on Friday.

The product affected by the recall is the 75-gram ALL SEASONS Quick-frozen herbs in resealable bags (8-spices), whose best-before date is January 20, 2028, batch number 4254431.

Aldi, in cooperation with the trade and consumer protection authority, immediately took the necessary measures, ensuring that the affected items were withdrawn from circulation and recalled from consumers. The authority is monitoring the measures taken by the company and the further fate of the recalled products (destruction or removal), the NKFH announced.

The authority requests that anyone who has purchased the product not consume it.

According to the information, the Escherichia coli (STEC) bacterium is a pathogen that can produce Shiga toxin (also known as verotoxin), which, when multiplied in the human body, can cause serious diarrheal diseases and colitis. Healthy people often experience mild symptoms from the infection, but infants, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems can develop a serious illness. Proper heat treatment and thorough cooking destroy the bacteria, but the risk is posed by eating raw or undercooked foods.
