Car comfort features are changing rapidly
Comfort features previously only available in premium cars are now also available in entry-level models, according to Ayvens’ analysis. These include a high-resolution central display, smartphone mirroring or LED headlights, but safety systems (such as lane keeping and emergency braking assistant) are also standard equipment.
The trend shows that the emphasis has gradually shifted from physical extras to digital solutions. While a few years ago, chassis and performance dominated model launches, today the smooth operation of the infotainment system and telephone integration are decisive factors. At the same time, more and more manufacturers are starting to bring back traditional buttons for controlling the climate or volume, because customers say they are safer and faster to use.
In the world of electric cars, heat pump heating is one of the most sought-after extras, which significantly increases the range. The panoramic roof, on the other hand, is divisive: although it is spectacular, it is expensive and may require a lot of maintenance in the long run.
For fleet operators, not only comfort but also value retention is key. Overly complicated extras – such as complex headlights or sensors – are expensive to repair, which can reduce the residual value of the vehicles. According to the Ayvens expert, a conscious configuration, with a few well-chosen options, is worth more in the long run than ticking off the entire extra list.
