Hungarians are child-centred in bio
According to a Nielsen survey conducted among Internet users in 46 countries, the most popular bio foods in Hungary are fruits, vegetables and eggs, like in the EU. While almost two-thirds of consumers in the EU buy the bio versions of these products regularly, this proportion is only 53-54 per cent in Hungary.
Bio products are becoming increasingly popular, but their prices are regarded as high. Price was the main reason for not buying bio products (50 per cent), while 16 per cent of those who refuse to buy such products do not believe that they are actually healthier or authentically “bio”.
The concept of bio is linked to wellness and health by consumers. Being more healthy than other products is the reason why one out of two Europeans buy bio products. The second most important consideration is the health of children, with a 26 per cent figure for Hungarians.
The favourable environmental impact of bio production is only of concern to 9 per cent of Hungarians, while the more humane treatment of animals matters to only 1 per cent.
