This year’s harvest will be weak and the price of apples will rise
Due to extreme weather this year, 450,000 tons of apple production is expected, which is half of last year’s figure and 25 percent lower than the ten-year average yield, so we can expect higher than average prices – according to the joint forecast of FruitVeB, the National Chamber of Agricultural Economics (NAK) and the Apple Product Council (ÉKASZ).
Apáti Ferenc, vice-president of the FruitVeB Hungarian Vegetable-Fruit Interprofessional Organization, told MTI on Friday that this year’s production volume is highly volatile, depending on the variety, growing area, region and location of the plantation. (MTI)
