When buying a new household appliance, four factors decisively influence consumers’ choices: the device’s functions, price, ease of access and the digital services associated with it. However, at the moment of making the decision and during the excitement of the purchase, few people deal with issues related to the guarantee, such as what the guarantee (more commonly known as the warranty) includes and how long it lasts, and what we get in comparison with it by purchasing the additional guarantee advertised by retailers, if we decide to sacrifice for it. Perhaps surprisingly, in many cases, manufacturer representatives also provide various additional promotions, which provide security for a much longer period than what is required by law, even for free.

In such cases, it provides free repair or replacement of the machine it manufactures, but it is not uncommon for it to compensate the customer in other ways. Such promotional services often cover a longer period than what is required by law, which is why it is worth carefully informing yourself before making a purchase.

The relevant law determines the mandatory warranty for consumers for products by price range. Accordingly, for household appliances not exceeding 250 thousand forints, consumers are entitled to a 2-year warranty, and for those more expensive than 250 thousand forints, a 3-year warranty. The retailer always has detailed information about the promotions related to the warranty provided by the brand representation, so it is able to provide full information to the customers. If it were to fail to do so, it would not only harm the financial interests of the product manufacturer, but also deceive the consumer. In such a case, the customer can file a public interest complaint with the Consumer Protection Authority operating in the county government offices or the Economic Competition Authority.
