NAV revealed the illegal practices of a suspiciously cheap webshop
The commercial practices of a webshop operated in Slovenia were investigated by the inspectors of the Special Tax and Customs Directorate of NAV; it turned out that the evasion of Hungarian taxes and the concealment of income contributed greatly to the strikingly low prices, the authority told MTI.
The Electronic Commerce Inspection Department, established for the targeted investigation of foreign online stores, ordered the investigation based on a preliminary risk analysis and data from courier services, which was conducted with the involvement of the Slovenian tax authorities, the announcement revealed.
The webshop, which sells electronic and clothing products and beauty products, with a significant turnover, advertised itself on the Internet with huge discounts on the products it delivered to Hungarian customers. The auditors revealed that the background of the devaluation was illegally reduced costs and unpaid VAT.
This not only caused damage to the budget, but also put legally operating and fairly taxing domestic companies at a significant competitive disadvantage – emphasized NAV. They informed me: the company had to pay HUF 210 million in VAT retroactively.
